Wood Dale School District 7 offers several screening programs. Please see the information below.
Birth to 3 Screening
District 7 offers a program called Parents as Teachers. This program is for parents of children from birth to 3 years of age. The parent educators will provide a free developmental screening for your child. The screening will assess your child in the areas of: physical development, coordination, language development, social skills, and behavior. The screening can be conducted in your home or at the Early Childhood Center. Please call 630-694-1174 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
District 7 offers free developmental screenings for children 3 to 5. The screening includes the areas of: speech/language, basic readiness/concepts, fine and gross motor skills, social/emotional, or self-help skills and vision and hearing. Preschool screenings are offered 4 times a year. Please call 630-694-1174 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
In March of each year all children who will be 5 years old on or before September 1st are asked to participate in the Kindergarten screening. This screening assesses all areas of school readiness and assists the district in planning for incoming kindergarten students. Please call 630-694-1174 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
Speech & Language Screening
All kindergarten students and all students new to the district are screened for speech and language. The screening assesses the areas of: expressive and receptive language, vocabulary, and articulation. Students who fail the screening are referred for a speech and language evaluation. Please contact the Speech/Language Pathologist at your child’s school should you have any questions regarding this program.
Vision & Hearing Screening
District 7 conducts vision and hearing screenings for all students in preschool, kindergarten and second grade. Hearing screening is only offered to students in grades one and three, and vision screening is only offered to students in grade eight.
Special education students, students new to the district, those with specific parent or teacher concerns, and children with known hearing loss are also screened. Please contact the Health Clerk at your child’s school should you have any questions regarding this program.
District 7, in cooperation with the DuPage County Health Department, provides a free screening and dental exam for all students. Following the exam, if it is determined that a child is in need of a dental cleaning, fluoride, and/or sealants, they will be provided free of charge for families who demonstrate a financial need. Participation in this program fulfills the requirement for a dental exam for students in kindergarten, second, and sixth grades. Participation in the Dental Screening/Exam Program is voluntary. Please contact the Health Clerk at your child’s school should you have any questions regarding this program.
