Transition to Full-Day In Person Learning!
At Westview, we have developed a plan to expand our in-person learning program, by having students participate in-person during BOTH the a.m. and p.m. learning sessions each day.
- PLEASE NOTE: After Friday, April 9th, we will no longer be offering a hybrid learning schedule in which students participate in person for half a day, and participate remotely during the other half of the day.
- Beginning on Monday, April 12th, students already participating in either the a.m. learning session or p.m. learning session will participate in a full school day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with their current teacher. Current school supplies will be used--no further supplies will be necessary.
- Updated Bus stop and pick up times will be distributed directly to students on April 7th-9th by their bus driver.
During the mid-day break from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m., all in-person students will remain at Westview and be supervised by school staff while having lunch indoors, recess outdoors (weather permitting), as well as a daily 30 minute independent reading session.
As a result of this change, we have also decided to postpone the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). Rather than students participating in this standardized assessment during morning sessions in April, we will instead be administering these tests to students in person on May 24th-26th.
After we have resumed full days for all current in-person students, families of remote-only students may be provided the opportunity to have their child resume in-person learning for full school days, later in April. All other mitigation measures to avoid the spread of COVID 19 remain in place including wearing face masks, frequent hand hygiene, and increased cleaning protocols. Students who are attending school in-person will continue to need parents to certify that they are healthy to learn, prior to entering the building each day.
COVID-19 Symptom Screening Procedures for Students
We are pleased to offer our In-Person and Remote Learning Formats, including live instruction all day, 5 days a week!
Students who are attending school in-person need parents to certify that they are healthy to learn, prior to entering the building, each day.
- The form can be opened from home and printed HERE. Copies will also be sent home with children or can be picked up in the school entryway. This is the same form used in the fall, so existing copies at home may be used.
We appreciate your patience with our daily procedures intended to maintain the health and safety of our entire school community. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Westview School Office at 630-766-8040.
Symptoms: Contact the school office to discuss any specific cases at 630-766-8040 to receive more guidance. We are following guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health to determine if a child can attend school in person. Click HERE to view the guidance document.
Change from Remote to In-Person: The deadline to change from Remote to In-Person Instruction for the 3rd trimester has passed. For those that have had their request approved, the change went into effect March 2nd (First day of the 3rd Trimester). Students are expected to attend school in person daily.
Change from In-Person to Remote?: Parents call Westview Office at 630-766-8040 to request the change anytime; must then stay remote through rest of year. Change goes into effect immediately.
Picking Up Items from School
The entryway at Westview's main entrance continues to serve as a convenient and safe way to pick up or drop off materials without the need for face to face contact.
Physical books checked out of the Westview library online, books from teachers' classrooms, or other materials are frequently labeled with a student's name and left on one of the two tables in our entryway.
Family members can pull into the bus lane (during Remote Learning) and stop by our entryway to pick up materials anytime from 7:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. during school days. The office staff is available to assist from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. using the white intercom phone in the entryway. Please contact your child's teacher or the school office at 630-766-8040 if you need any assistance arranging to get learning materials for your child to use at home!
Choice Boards - Student Assignments in Case of Power/Internet Outage
As we all continue to look toward better days ahead, we know that it is good practice to plan in advance for unexpected events. While we are very proud of our students and staff for how well they are doing with Remote and Hybrid Learning, we realize that our daily routine could come to an abrupt stop if we were to experience a power outage or internet service outage in the area. If this were to happen, we still want learning to continue and have created a contingency plan.
Our staff members have created a set of activities that students could work on without their Chromebooks. We will be sending home hard copies with students when we return to our hybrid model next week. We will also have additional copies available for pick-up in the main entrance at Westview. Electronic links are provided below for any families that would like to print their own copies, but please be aware that the size of each file varies from 1 page to many. In the event of a power or internet outage, we would also make an effort to post these links to the WV website, which might still be accessible through smartphones or tablets using cellular data rather than wi-fi networks.
Reminder, these assignments should NOT be completed now. They should be saved and completed in the event that we have a local emergency preventing us from having our typical remote or hybrid learning schedule, such as a power outage or internet service outage.
If you have any general questions about this plan, please feel free to contact the school office. Should you have any questions about the specific assignments, please reach out to your child's teacher for clarification.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance with planning for the unexpected!
